EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an evidence based treatment for many issues that our clients present with including trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, PMAD, Traumatic Births, general distressing life experiences and many others.  You might find that there are specific areas, experiences or themes in your life you continue to get "stuck" on and therapy has not seemed to help.  EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process.

AIP Model: The foundation of EMDR is understood through the Adaptive Information Processing model. This is the idea that our bodies know how to heal if given what they need. This process in the body gets disrupted, or blocked,  when trauma or distressing experiences occur and we don't have what we need in that moment.  The memories, emotions and body sensations get held in the nervous system in that state, having difficulty moving through to long-term memory or appropriate integration. EMDR helps us target these processes through bilateral stimulation, allowing for the nervous system to move into a state of healing.

For many clients, EMDR can be completed in less sessions than other forms of therapy and is a more intuitive form of treatment.

Our therapists have extensive training in EMDR and are all working towards EMDRIA Certification.  EMDR can be incorporated into your ongoing therapy, adjunct to another therapy with another therapist or can stand alone as its own treatment.
