SPACE

SPACE therapy stands for "Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions." It is an evidence-based treatment approach designed to help children with anxiety disorders by focusing on improving parent-child interactions. Here are some key aspects of SPACE therapy: Parental Involvement, Gradual Exposure, Emotional Support, Empowerment and Flexibility.

Overall, SPACE therapy is a collaborative and family-based approach that aims to reduce anxiety in children by changing the family dynamics and increasing the child's ability to cope with anxiety-provoking situations.

SPACE therapy was developed by Eli Lebowitz, Ph.D., who is a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Lebowitz is known for his work in childhood anxiety disorders and has conducted research focusing on family-based treatments, particularly in the context of anxiety disorders in children. He developed SPACE therapy as a way to involve parents more directly in the treatment process and improve outcomes for children with anxiety. His research and clinical work have contributed significantly to the field of child psychology and anxiety treatment.
