Supporting parents who are supporting children with medical or mental health diagnoses
It takes courage to seek out help, and I want to be part of your journey to feeling better about yourself, your family, and the world around you. Maybe you are having conflicting feelings about life, or feel overwhelmed with the day to day aspects of being a parent. I want to help you identify the parts of your life that are troubling you, and help you find the strength to become more self-aware, grow as a person, and regain your confidence. How will we do this? Let’s start by working together, as a team, to help you rise up. In our sessions, I will be supportive and candid, challenging and encouraging. I build a relationship with my clients to give them a safe environment to express themselves, be truthful with themselves, and identify and achieve their self-created goals. I want my clients to feel confident in our relationship, and that strength will lead to not only greater depth of discovery, but ultimately greater clarity and progress. I will not always tell you what you want to hear – therapy is a place to discuss uncomfortable feelings and situations, but I promise you that we will work through them together. My hope is to motivate you to ultimately ask your own questions, find your own answers and reach your own happiness.
My area of focus is in perinatal/maternal mental health, parenting, and children’s wellbeing. My interests in these areas have come from years of one-on-one and group counseling work with a variety of populations. I also have experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, and family dynamics. I have worked at Kennedy Krieger Institute in the Neuropsychology department and Autism Center. I also have worked in Baltimore County Schools as a School Psychologist, working with students and parents to improve academic success and family relationships. Being in a variety of settings has given me the insight into helping children succeed, and working with parents to navigate the school system. I also have extensive experience in interpreting childhood diagnoses, and helping parents adapt, and sometimes cope with this knowledge. Being a mom and “bonus mom,” I have experiences that may also help you in your parenting journey. Ultimately, no matter what path brought you here, I look forward to working with you to be more mindful, successful, and joyful.
